Can coaching be reimbursed via health insurance?
No. My coaching services, unlike my psychotherapy services, are not considered healthcare services eligible for reimbursement by your PPO. However, many clients appreciate the flexibility and freedom from third party intrusion that private pay offers, along with the creativity and motivation that come with investing in a stronger foundation for their thriving at this time in their life.
Coaching vs Therapy: Which is right for me?
Both psychotherapy and coaching can help you make powerful changes in your life.
- People seek therapy because they have symptoms of a mental health issue and want to feel and function better. If you have a mental health diagnosis, such as anxiety or depression, or a sense of emptiness and disconnection from unresolved trauma, consider finding support from a therapist who has the licensure and training to address your concerns. Therapy helps people work through painful feelings, repair or set healthy boundaries in relationships, identify the roots of issues (often from earlier in life), release energy stuck in your body, and replace old mental programming with new neural pathways. The deep work of therapy can help you heal so you can begin to live the life that you want.
If, however, you aren't feeling stuck in the past or you have already done your healing work through therapy, coaching can help you shift into your next level of thriving. Coaching can help you clarify your vision, intention, and sense of calling, overcome blocks to moving your life into the future, and experience a personal, professional, or creative breakthrough. When we work together with restorative coaching, we will tap into your body's deep intuitive wisdom, provide accountability for making the changes that emerge for you from the inside out, and partner in believing in your highest possibilities.
In a restorative coaching relationship, we will not be establishing a therapist-patient relationship, nor will I be providing mental health counseling, therapy, diagnosis, or treatment. If we uncover untreated mental health issues, I may refer you to more appropriate care or to psychotherapy concurrently with coaching services. A life-long learner, I bring all my advanced training as a mental health professional and cutting edge wellness tools to empower you now through coaching. Together, we can further level up your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellness so that you can step into your best self.
THERAPY FEES AND INSURANCE +
$275 for weekly 45 minute therapy sessions
Longer sessions are also available as appropriate:
- $350 for 60 minutes
- $450 for 75 minutes
Charging the full value of therapy allows me to work in a focused, individually curated manner with a few clients at a time, to whom I bring my full self and range of skills.
Do you have a sliding scale?
I have a limited number of lower fee therapy slots to accommodate the diversity of people who seek my services, including creatives, changemakers, and those transitioning to their next becoming. Please inquire with me if this will make a difference for you.
Low fee options:
- Open Path Collective
- National Queer & Trans Therapists of Color Network
- Loveland Therapy Fund for Black Women and Girls
- Therapy Aid Coalition’s Free/Low Fee Therapy for Essential Workers
Are sessions covered by my insurance?
I am not in network with any health insurance plan. However, most PPO plans will reimburse members for a percentage of out-of-network mental health services beyond their deductible.
Next, please call your insurance member services to verify your out-of-network mental health benefits. Here are some questions to ask:
- Are out-of-network providers accepted for behavioral health services?
- What is my co-insurance rate (in percentages) for out-of-network providers?
- What is the UCR (usual and customary rate) for CPT code 90834 (this is the weekly session code) in zip code 94114?
- How much do I pay towards my deductible before my benefits will apply?
My practice is happy to provide monthly superbills (detailed invoices) that you can use to submit claims to your insurance company. Please note that you will need to receive a mental health diagnosis for your insurance company to justify medical necessity for reimbursement of services. Some people prefer the independence of not having a third party involved in their mental health care.
Some clients are also able to save money by paying for therapy using pre-tax dollars with a Health Savings (HSA) or Flexible Spending (FSA) Account. Please consult a financial professional when making savings decisions.
What forms of payment do you take?
I am able to securely process credit, debit, HSA, and FSA cards online.
HOW DOES THERAPY WORK? +
How long do therapy sessions typically last?
Therapy sessions typically last 45 minutes. Clients may at times request longer (e.g. 60 or 75 minute) sessions when seeking treatment using Brainspotting in order to allow time for deeper healing.
How often will I need to come to therapy?
I see clients weekly as therapy is most effective when it occurs regularly.
How long will I need to come to therapy?
While treatment duration varies, typically a minimum of 12 sessions is helpful for seeing long-term effects. With Brainspotting and Super Resourcing, effects are sometimes evident after just a few sessions, although underlying attachment and intergenerational trauma may need more time for gently processing through.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Our cancellation and reschedule policy requires 48 hour notice, in order to offer others the chance to schedule during that time slot if not needed. Cancellation with less than 48 hours notice requires payment in full since that slot is being held for you.
What happens during the first therapy session?
Our first meeting is about getting to know one another. You can expect to share your concerns, experiences, and hopes for therapy. You’ll learn about my therapeutic style and my practice policies. Together, we’ll also begin to develop a plan to help you reach your goals.
Where do sessions take place?
I am currently seeing clients exclusively online. Please read more here about online therapy with me.
What is Brainspotting?
Brainspotting is a cutting-edge “power therapy” that is related to EMDR and somatic experiencing. It is believed that trauma processing at particular eye positions or “brain spots” while tracking the body works at the subcortical regions of the brain to bring both deeper healing and expansion than is possible through traditional talk therapy. Brainspotting is also used for creativity and performance enhancement. See here for further information on Brainspotting.
Do you provide Emotional Support Animal (ESA) letters?
I do not provide letters for Emotional Support Animals. While some people report receiving a therapeutic benefit from ESAs, providing these letters is currently outside the scope of my practice.
